DESERT FUSION

This ensemble’s focal point is a Batik panel of Gila Monsters on the bolero jacket back accented with paper pieced Mariner’s Compass Stars on the jacket sleeves.  The original Batik panel was cut apart and used in other areas of the jacket.  I digitized the smaller Gila Monsters and then used the same design for the outlined Gila Monsters.  Metallic thread has been couched on the seam lines.  The stars are a “Wonky 9 Patch Star” technique and are meant to be askew.  Various trims, along with the couched metallic thread and the embroidered motifs were used to enhance the Southwestern theme.  Seminole piecing was used on the sleeves to further the Southwest look.  I made gaucho pants (not shown)  from gabardine fabric and repeated the Mariner’s Compass Stars on the hemline of the pants.  The jacket is the Bolero jacket from my pattern collection, “I Wearing My Quilt #0803” and the gaucho pants are from a commercial pattern.
